The 21st Annual Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards and Report to the Entertainment Industry attracted many celebrities to the occasion the Universal Hilton Hotel, a skip and a hop from the heart of Hollywood, aka “The Movie Capital of the World.”

LES MISÉRABLES starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway took home the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie of 2012 at packed Gala on Friday night.

Supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation since 1996, the Epiphany Prizes are giving to the best, most entertaining, most inspiring, and spiritually uplifting movies and TV programs that “greatly increase man’s love or understanding of God.”

Dr. Jack Templeton, president of the John Templeton Foundation and son of the late founder Sir John Templeton, who established the Epiphany Prizes with Movieguide®, was very pleased with this year’s success at the Awards Gala.

“Not only was it sold out,” Dr. Templeton said of the Gala, “but for the first time (s these programs go on long) not a single person left and there was the highest level of joy that I’ve felt at any one of these past events.”

Dr. Templeton announced the winners at the end of the Gala with Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®.

“This event is important because it protects and inspires the hearts and minds of our children and grandchildren, who deserve and need quality entertainment with wholesome, enlightening and spiritually uplifting programming,” said Dr. Ted Baehr, publisher of Movieguide®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, now in its 27th year of serving the public.

“Since the Gala began in 1993, the number of movies with a Christian, biblical, spiritually uplifting, or moral worldview has doubled, and the number of movies with at least some God-centered, spiritually uplifting, Christian, biblical, moral, or redemptive content and values has quadrupled.

“Our annual analysis also shows that the most family-friendly movies with God-centered, moral, spiritually uplifting, Christian, biblical, redemptive, or wholesome content and principles with little or no obscenity, sex, graphic violence, and explicit nudity make the most money by far.”

The Game Show Network’s THE AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE starring Jeff Foxworthy won the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring TV Program of 2012.

“What a great surprise,” Senior Vice President of Programming and Development David Schiff at the Game Show Network said as he handled the beautiful plaque for the Epiphanies, which are a rendition of Michelangelo’s famous painting of God creating Adam.

“THE AMERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE is a game show where people of all ways of life come together,” he added. “Faith crosses all boundaries and all ways of life. Our teams play for charity. So far, they’ve raised $650,000. That’s a legacy that will go far beyond our show.”
