My future team, the Manila-based ‘Channel of Hope Foundation, Inc.’ has been busy collecting Christmas presents for children in the areas affected by typhoon Haiyan. Two weeks ago they took a truck with presents to Tacloban and Dulag in Leyte, met up with members of the ‘Rise Above Foundation, Cebu’ and distributed the gifts to the children there. Click on any of the 3 collages (and once on the FB ‘Like’ button) to view the corresponding Facebook albums. Since the middle of November ‘Channel of Hope’ has been regularly sending teams with truck loads of essential relief goods to Tacloban and other parts of Leyte. The teams distributed humanitarian aid and helped traumatized typhoon victims to cope with the loss of loved ones and livelihoods by giving emotional and spiritual support. More trips are planned at the onset of 2014 with the next team and shipment going January 2.

I am going to join their team in the middle of January 2014 in their efforts in rebuilding lives in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. Please visit my fundraising page, watch my video there or below and feel free to donate to make my volunteer trip to the Philippines possible, as the team is waiting for me. Any contributions are greatly appreciated.

It is estimated that it can take years for typhoon Haiyan’s wounds to be healed. The Super Typhoon left nearly 6000 people dead or missing and ruined the homes of about four million others when it tore across some of the Philippines’ poorest fishing and farming communities. Nearly three million people remain reliant on life-saving food aid or farming support, such as crop seeds.
